Advanced Programme

Introducing the Student Leadership Programme

Enabling Enterprise wants to equip students with the skills and aspirations they will need to succeed in life.

This project provides opportunities for students who have completed the Core Level 2 Enabling Enterprise course to put their skills into practice and make further progress towards setting up a business, further education or university. Through their earlier Enabling Enterprise course, students will have already run a small project, worked in teams, developed enterprise skills (such as teamwork, giving presentations, personal organisation) and put into practice basic business techniques (such as setting objectives, conducting SWOT and cost-benefit analyses, developing pricing and marketing strategies).

A new challenge
Through the Student Leadership Programme, students in Key Stages 4 or 5 will have the opportunity to build on these experiences and develop advanced entrepreneurial skills including leadership, innovation and financial management. The Programme will be based around students setting up their own viable business or community projects. This is intended to act as a springboard from which students can set up their own businesses, or access further or higher education opportunities that would benefit their longer-term business prospects and employability.

Course delivery will be led by teachers in their own classrooms, with supplementary visits to outstanding businesses, and expert sessions led by volunteers. We will support this by supplying all course materials including schemes of work, lesson plans, and teacher training. We will also supply the volunteers and business links to make the programme a success.

We expect that the soft skills gained by students taking part on this course will also make a difference to their future success in life – developing personal motivation, self-confidence, practicality, and resilience in the face of challenges. As teachers, we recognise that there is a particular problem around students’ “social capital” and developing the experiences that they need to compete with their peers in less challenging schools. This course would help address that need.

A recognised qualification
Finally, the course is accredited to both Level 2 and Level 3, so students can achieve a substantial extra formal qualification in Employability Skills from taking part, to add to their CV.
