The Donut Kings was a small business set up by Martin, Dylan, Joan, Igor and Francel from Cardinal Pole School in Hackney. The students were studying the Enabling Enterprise Business course during their weekly afternoon Enrichment sessions.
After conducting some initial market research to identify which products they thought would be popular with their classmates, group settled on the idea of selling donuts from a stall that they would set up in the school grounds.
The Donut Kings secured a great deal on their initial bulk purchase of donuts after some skilful negotiation with a local bakery. By setting the price at three for £1, they were assured of a significant profit, and as the result of some skilful advertising, the playground went wild on the day the stall opened, with several of the teachers becoming enthusiastic customers!
With some smart reinvestment of their profits, the team managed to raise £300 in profit in just five days. Trading had to come to an end only when the school canteen noticed a sudden decline in sales!
The group are currently taking part in the new Enabling Enterprise Advanced Course, the details of which are given on our Teachers site. (For more information, please see here). We look forward to seeing the results of their next project!
