Thirty lucky students from The Smallberry Green Primary school in Isleworth were given the rare opportunity to explore the offices of Baker and McKenzie law firm in central London. With a view of St Pauls Cathedral from their office for the day, the students knew they were up for an exciting and challenging day ahead.

They were introduced to Baker and McKenzie by Susanna Winter, who explained what lawyers do and what it is like to work there. Joining them throughout the day was Lisa and Tracey who had worked there for 16 years and 26 years respectively. With these hard working people in their workplace, everyone agreed that their efforts and achievements were worth celebrating. Well, it was over to the students to take on this challenge.

Planning an Awards Event

The task for the day was to be organising an awards celebration event for the hard working employees of Baker and McKenzie. Teamwork was essential for this task and the students were ready to listen to one another and put their best ideas together. With budgets and themes and entertainment to organise the teams had little time to waste.

Sticking to the budget

With a £12,000 budget available, the teams had to work hard to find the best venue, decorations and food for the right price. ‘The Golden Bakers’ team decided on a Halloween theme and would use their budget to buy golden trophies for the winners. And the Apollo Stars noticed that the employees had a pic ‘n’ mix in their canteen so as to please the employees they spend their money on lots of sweet treats.

Pitching their ideas

When ideas were finalised it was not time to do what any events company needed to do to sell their ideas, provide a persuasive pitch to win over the client. After practising how to maintain excellent eye contact, speak confidently and deliver an outstanding presentation, it was time to get presenting.

The ‘Amazing Superb Bakers’ addressed the entire room, sharing their extravagant ideas with the judges, who were impressed by how well they projected their voices. ‘The Super Baker and McKenzie Humans’ were also great in their delivery, and made sure to help each other out when presenting their work.

However, there could only be one winner, and after much deliberation it was decided that ‘TBAMM’ were the winners. They had such energy and enthusiasm and presented their awards event with confidence and gusto.

A big well done to all the teams who took part in the business trip to Baker and McKenzie and to the volunteers who supported throughout the day. Baker and McKenzie are supporting student to build enterprise skills that are essential for the future. If you’d like to find out more, contact us.
