Banking on UBS

UBS can bank on plenty of future talent if our students are anything to go by.

On 7th February 2010, pupils and teachers from Bishop Douglass Science College, Cardinal Pole and St. Mary’s school in Cheshunt came together for a cross-subject “Introduction to Enterprise Day” in central London. Frankly, on arrival the students were so impressed by the swankiness of the venue we couldn’t go far wrong, but the best was yet to come.

Over forty pupils taking part in this exciting event that was kindly hosted by UBS and its volunteers. The day consisted of ice-breaker activities, various marketing challenges but the event pupils responded to most seemed to be the “speed-dating” of a variety of UBS employees. Questions that were asked ranged from, “What kind of car do you drive?” and  “How much do you get paid again?” through to “Do you do any work experience here?” as pupils grilled the UBS volunteers unflinchingly. Already, it seems that many of the Enabling Enterprise participants have picked up some networking skills…

The day was a huge success. Many thanks must go to all of the teachers and pupils involved across the schools for helping to make the day so memorable. Our biggest thanks, however, goes to Katy Miles and her team of volunteers for helping to raise the aspirations of our participants and deepen their understanding of the world of work.
