Year 9s Take on the Tech World
Teenagers are on their smart phones and social media the whole time, right? So what happens when you mix this passion with ICT lessons at school?
Year 9 students from Cardinal Pole School in Hackney found out as they took part in the Lesson Time Project Innovate IT, supported by the Forward Foundation, which sees students set up their own online businesses or enterprises during ICT lessons. And the teams have certainly risen to the challenge, coming up some innovative projects, from apps which can detect image properties and find the matching cheapest item on the internet, to online tutorial sites and customised t-shirts.
The students have also had the fantastic opportunity to visit Forward Internet Group in the heart of Camden, one of the most innovative tech companies in the UK. They have worked alongside tech experts on their trips to Forward, learning about the different sectors in the tech world and putting their own skills to the test.

The feedback from the teachers, students and Forward volunteers has been great, with Year 9 student Garkin saying “I have really enjoyed working as a team and building up our idea together”, and Deji saying that his favourite part of the project was “using IT creatively, especially when we made our logos”.
Here’s to the tech stars of tomorrow!
