Greenford High School: The Key to Entrepreneurial Success

Since first approaching us in 2010, Greenford High School has embedded Enabling Enterprise in several subjects to re-invigorate the school curriculum and provide students with the skills, experiences and aspirations they need to succeed. Since the programme was such a hit for Business Studies in their first year, they have expanded the number of participating students and extended the enterprising approach to a whole new subject area. Enabling Enterprise Core Module – The Seeds for Success

In the academic year of 2010 – 2011, Greenford High School ran our Core Programme for a group of Year 9 students, who learned about the core principles of enterprise by working in teams to design, create and manage their very own businesses. During the course of the programme, the students were given opportunities to work creatively, independently and collaboratively, whilst developing key business skills in the areas of planning, finance, marketing, and evaluation. At the end of the programme, all the hard work had paid off – the student businesses had been a huge success and every student finished the programme with flying colours – in other words, a recognised NCFE qualification in Enterprise skills!

Branching Outwards – Enterprising English and Corporate Events

After the success of the previous year, Greenford decided to expand the Enabling Enterprise Core Programme to the English Department. As well as starting up a fresh crop of businesses, Year 9 students embraced an enterprising approach to literacy and literature, by working together to produce and publicise a school magazine. As an opportunity to enhance the skills the students had gained from the project, Enabling Enterprise hosted the magazine team at the offices of the international media company, OMD. Supported by media professionals, the students explored the use of advertising in printing publications and how to best market target audiences. At the end of the day, the students put their expertise to the test, by creating their own online advertising campaigns for Nike Sportswear. Alongside a trip to OMD, Greenford students have also been displaying entrepreneurial flair at events with Freshfields and London Business School.
