The School:

Al-Furqan Primary School is in their third year working with Enabling Enterprise keen to develop their children’s Essential Skills from Early Years to Year 6. In school, students have been busy developing their skills by taking part in engaging events like their recent ‘Day in Politics‘ and Lesson-time Projects. Year 2 have eagerly started their Community Café project which will see them opening a café for the parents later this Summer term.

Today’s trip was a fantastic opportunity for students from Year 2 to put their Staying Positive and Problem Solving skills to the test with the support from professional business volunteers.

The Business:

Jones Lang LaSalle Incorporated or JLL is a professional services and investment management company specialising in real estate. JLL employ more than 58,000 people in more than 1,000 locations in 80 countries. Alongside construction, development and property management, JLL also offers a range of financial services.

The Challenge: Brilliant Builds

The day started off with the students interviewing the volunteers to find out about their different roles, responsibilities and the Essential Enterprise Skills required to do their jobs. The 6- and 7-year olds then eagerly went on a tour of the premises, which allowed the teams to see the great variety of jobs available in the world of property.
Taking on the role of Town Planners, teams were then challenged to apply their Problem Solving skills to design a new community space for the fictional town of Bogsby.
Taking the location and needs of the community on board, teams worked together to build a model of the community space. The day culminated in teams sharing their final ideas with the JLL volunteer team.

What they said:

  • “It’s been great to see students getting the chance to develop their teamwork and problem solving skills and grow in confidence. The challenge was suitable to the age group and the tour of the offices made a big impact on the students.” – Teacher
  • “The best part for me was seeing the quieter students do so well in their presentations.” – Volunteer
  • ” We learned about lots of new buildings and how to work in a team.” – Student
  • “I really enjoyed making our model and helping my team. It was a god day!” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great trip day!
