The School: Claremont Primary School

In their 4th year working with Enabling Enterprise, Claremont Primary School are one of Manchester’s longest running Enabling Enterprise schools and boy did it show today. The students arrived prepared and raring to go, settling into teams with unfamiliar members and welcoming their volunteers before jumping head first into a tricky challenge.

The Business: One Manchester

Launched in 2015 when Eastlands Homes and City South Manchester Housing Trust joined together in partnership, One Manchester is a unique social business that looks to innovative approaches and partnerships to tackle the issues faced by our neighbourhoods. One Manchester manage a wide range of neighbourhoods, and over 12,500 homes across south and east Manchester.

The Challenge: Spread the Word

Students had to use Creativity and Problem Solving skills in order to come up with a campaign that would promote just one element of the great work carried out by One Manchester in their local community, and raise awareness on issues faced by young people of Manchester. Throughout the day all teams competed in a variety of exciting and fast-paced activities in order to develop their understanding of these social issues, with a particular focus on what a responsible landlord could do to help young people in a local community as well as in society at large.

The Results:

At the end of the day all students had shown how they were able to apply their creativity skills to the highest standard. They created a mascot to spread the word to the people of Manchester. With a focus on developing effective communication skills, students then planned and rehearsed a news broadcast, focusing on giving a voice to those who were helped by their business.

What they said:

  • “What a fantastic trip. The students were brilliant and I can’t believe the CEO gave his time up to come and speak with the children, he was so good with them… so were all the volunteers. ” – Teacher
  • “What a fantastic bunch of kids, they did amazingly well.” – Volunteer, One Manchester
  • “Your news reports were really well presented. The content was so well thought out and in only a very short time. There are some adults in this organisation that would have struggled with that task.” – Volunteer
  • “I can’t believe all the good things that One Manchester do. I’d love to work for them when I’m older” – Student

Thanks to One Manchester for such a great trip day, and to the students from Claremont Primary School for coming along.
