The School:

Ealing-based Montpelier Primary is in its fourth year working with Enabling Enterprise to develop a set of eight Essential Skills in their students. Over the years, students have been busy developing those skills not just in the classroom by completing Lesson-Time Projects, but also by taking part in numerous employer visits to top businesses across London – BuroHappold Engineering and international bank UBS for this academic year alone. Students have also taken part in several Challenge Days as a whole school, and so today’s challenge was a fantastic opportunity for students from Reception through to Year 6 to put their Essential Skills to the test once more with gusto.

The Crime Scene Challenge

It was due to be a day packed with enterprise projects today at Montpelier when the EE team had to call the whole school for a special assembly first thing in the morning. They had brought in some special guests – Crime Scene Investigators – who needed some help urgently.
Over the course of the day, the students worked in teams as police investigators to solve the case of the ‘Sugar Snatcher.’ Following police procedures such as fingerprint analysis and evaluating evidence at the crime scene itself, the students were able to put their Problem Solving skills to the test to help them build a convincing case for who they thought the culprit was. Continuing to practise on their Teamwork skills, it was then time to shine with their Presenting skills as they put their case forward to the case officer.

What they said:

  • “This is so organised, so well done! They are so thrilled, I’ve never seen them talk so much and cooperate so well!” – Teaching Assistant
  • “The content is very engaging and it got them very excited. There’s definitely been a lot more talking today, and that’s really important for this class.” – Teacher
  • “I disagree with this team because they don’t have enough evidence to support that. Hansel comes from a poor family, so where were his sweets from??” – Student
  • “There was somebody in my team who was really good at keeping us together even when we disagreed and I think she deserves more points for Working in a Team.” – Student
  • “One of our teammates was very good at Staying Positive because there was a lot to do and this person didn’t mind changing jobs and helping out with everything we had to do.” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great Challenge Day!
