The School:

Audley Primary are in their sixth year working with Enabling Enterprise. In school, students have been busy developing their Essential Skills by designing new forms of transport. Our Lady’s Primary are in their fourth year working with Enabling Enterprise. Back in school, they have been busy developing their Essential Skills by creating Community Art Spaces. Today’s trip was a fantastic opportunity for students from both schools to put their Using Imagination and Problem Solving skills to the test with the support from our Virgin Media volunteers.

The Business:

Virgin Mobile was launched over a decade ago as the world’s first virtual mobile network. Today, Virgin Media is a part of Liberty Global plc, the world’s largest international cable company. Together Virgin Media and Liberty Global serve 24 million customers across 14 countries, helping connect people to the digital world

The Challenge: Imaginative Inventors

The day began with the students interviewing the Virgin Media employees to find out about their different roles, responsibilities and the Essential Skills required to do their jobs. Students then went on a tour of the premises, which allowed the teams to see the great variety of jobs available in the world of media and technology and the problems that can face employees in the work place.
Students were then set a challenge to identify a work place problem and design a gadget to solve the problem to present to Virgin Media staff. It was really important that students were Sharing Ideas with each other so that they could come up with the most creative and innovative designs in their mixed school teams.
The day culminated with each team pitching their design ideas to a panel of judges in the hope that they could persuade them that their super solution was the best for Virgin to adopt.
