The School:

Harris Academy Orpington is in its first year working with Enabling Enterprise. Today’s career challenge was a fantastic opportunity for students from Year 10 to learn more about the world of work, explore their aspirations and put their essential skills to the test.

The Challenge: Future Focus

Over the course of the day, students had the opportunity to explore a range of different careers by completing a carousel of activities. These allowed the students to think about which career sectors interested them the most and consider which skills would be the most useful in these, such as Presenting, Being Creative and Working in a Team. During the career carousel, students learnt more about their sector via video interviews with employees at JLL, then took part in a sector-specific activity in teams. For example, in ‘Living Environment’ the students worked on risk-taking, decision-making and staying positive through a Disaster Management task.

The day culminated with students creating an action plan for their next steps, reflecting on the skills they used during the day.

What they said:

  • “It’s a good opportunity for the students to see how career paths work, to broaden their horizons and to see how within a large organisation you can do many different jobs.” – Teacher
  • “Today has been really helpful: it has helped me understand different jobs and clarify what I’d like to do in the future.” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great Challenge Day!
