The School:

Hornsey School for Girls is in its first year of working with Enabling Enterprise. Today they invited all the Year 6 students who will be joining them in September, to a friendship afternoon to meet some current Hornsey students and get to know each other. Throughout the afternoon they used all their essential skills, Working in a Team and Being Creative.

The Challenge: Crime Scene Challenge

Over the course of the afternoon, the Year 6 students worked in teams as police investigators to solve the case of the ‘Sugar Snatcher.’ Following police procedures such as fingerprint analysis and evaluating evidence at the crime scene itself, the students were able to put their Problem Solving skills to the test to help them build a convincing case for who they thought was the guilty culprit.

What they said:

  • “We really wanted these girls to explore the skills they’d need when they come up to Hornsey and to get a chance to interact with fellow students is really important.” Hornsey School for Girls, Headteacher
  • “I ask my students to work in a team all the time but with the decision making activity you really taught them how to do it.” Hornsey School for Girls, SLT
  • “So great to see this team including everyone in the conversation, especially when everyone has just met each other and is a bit shy.” – Hornsey School for Girls, Teacher
  • “What a great way to start at the school! The skills are so important for them.” – Parent of prospective Year 6 Student
  • “I wanted to be that role but I think you should have it and I will find another role to do.” – Prospective Year 6 Student
  • “Voting was a good way to decide because that way everyone gets to share their ideas.” – Prospective Year 6 Student
  • “My team have been great at listening to each other and sharing their ideas.” – Hornsey School for Girls, Year 7 Student
  • “They had some great ideas when they came to the crime scene – really thinking about what they’d already seen and making links.” – Hornsey School for Girls, Sixth Form Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great afternoon!
