The School:

Located in the London Borough of Enfield, Brimsdown Primary is in its second year of working with Enabling Enterprise. Previously, students have been busy developing a set of eight essential skills by visiting top businesses such as developers Anthology, creative company Forward3D and international bank UBS. Last year, students across the school created their very own political parties to solve problems for society. Today’s challenge was a fantastic opportunity for students from Reception right through to Year 6 to stretch those same essential skills once more with gusto, on a mysterious challenge that was sure to put their Problem Solving and Staying Positive skills to the test.

The Crime Scene Challenge

Over the course of the day, the students worked in teams as police investigators to solve the case of the ‘Sugar Snatcher’. Following police procedures such as fingerprint analysis and evaluating evidence at the crime scene itself, the students were able to put their Problem Solving skills to the test to help them build a convincing case for who they thought the culprit was. Some detectives even went the extra mile by running a thorough search through the whole playground!
Continuing to practise their Working in a Team skills, it was then time to present their case to the case officer. One thing was certain – they absolutely stretched their skills to the highest standard in order to prove which suspect was guilty.

What they said:

  • “It’s been good to see how they’ve worked in teams with students you wouldn’t expect to be sharing ideas, especially in the small groups.” – Teacher
  • “I work with children who have SEN and today I’ve seen them certainly engaged and contributing in ways that they would not normally do in other lessons.” – Support Staff
  • “We’ve worked really well together as a team because we’re solving the problem of the Sugar Snatcher by finding evidence to catch them.” – Teacher
  • “I think it must be Goldilocks because I listened to the clue of her eating the chocolate.” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great Challenge Day!
