The School:

Friern Barnet School has been working with Enabling Enterprise for several years. Previously, students have been busy developing their Enterprise Skills through a range of trips to our employer partners and Challenge Days across KS3. Today’s challenge was a fantastic opportunity for students from Year 7 to put their Essential Skills to the test.

The Challenge: Operation Moonbase

Over the course of the day, students used their Working in a Team skills to establish a new society on a distant moon called Utopia. A series of challenges required teams to use their Essential Skills, particularly practising their Problem Solving, Using Imagination and Listening Carefully. Teams needed to think about the laws they’d want in their ideal society, reflecting on existing laws here on Earth. They were given a budget to spend on a choice of possible buildings to include in their Utopian city and ultimately created a model of their own dream city. The day culminated in a series of persuasive pitches at the Intergalactic Trade Fair which gave each team the opportunity to show off their fantastic ideas.

What they said:

  • “I’ve been surprised by some of the students. They’ve spoken up and shared what they think is important” – Teacher
  • “I am going to be the champion for leading because I am really good at making sure everyone has a job and is always involved” – Student
  • “I just want to make sure that our society is the best it can be!” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great Challenge Day!
