The School: Tenterfields Primary Academy

Tenterfields Primary Academy is a one-form entry school located in Halesowen. They have partnered with Enabling Enterprise for over 3 years and all students are familiar with the essential skills championed by Enabling Enterprise, having taken part in a variety of Lesson-Time Projects and enterprise challenge days in school, such as their ‘Future Transport‘ Challenge Day.

The Business: Hogarths Stone Manor

Hogarths are a small group of beautifully restored hotels based in the West Midlands. Set in 26 acres of beautiful Worcestershire countryside, Hogarths Stone Manor is a luxury venue for a variety of events, from intimate weddings to show-stopping conferences and events.

The Challenge: Delightful Dos

Travelling through snow on World Book Day to Hogarths Stone Manor, saw the mixed aged teams conducting some crucial early research – interviewing Hogarths staff about their roles, responsibilities and the skills they use in their day-to-day jobs. The 7 – 11 year olds then went on an exciting tour of the hotel which sparked their imagination for their special task: to plan an engaging event at the hotel for World Book Day. They needed to consider a book inspired theme, engaging entertainment, fabulous food and dazzling decorations. This put their Using Imagination and Team Work skills to the test as teams were challenged to create a new and original event that could potentially take place at the luxurious Hogaths Stone Manor.

The Results:

From the off, as young professionals, the 7 to 11 year olds formed effective teams – taking turns to introduce themselves to Hogarths staff and set about finding out all they could about the hotel, the job opportunities there, the skills needed to be successful and how they might work together to come up with a truly imaginative event for World Books Days of the future at Hogarths. Points aplenty were earned by the mixed aged teams – keen to demonstrate their skills in this workplace setting.

What they said:

  • “A fantastic day at Stone Manor. The children especially enjoyed the tour of the hotel – what a treat to see behind the scenes!” – Teacher
  • “What an incredible day. I’ve loved every bit of it. The children were super – really focussed and the challenge was just right for the mixed teams. It engaged and motivated them. I would definitely volunteer with Enabling Enterprise again.” – Volunteer
  • “I was impressed with the increased confidence shown by all of the children – especially those who usually lack confidence to share ideas back in school…but they all spoke out and presented here today. Just brilliant.” – Teacher
  • “My best bit of the day? All of it! I’ve used all my enterprise skills. My team were really good today. I feel amazing. Can we do this again? “- Student

Thanks to Hogarths Stone Manor for such a great trip day, and to Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 from Tenterfields Primary Academy for coming along.
