The School: Queen’s Park High School

Queen’s Park High School are in their second year working with Enabling Enterprise. The year 7 students have been building their skills back at school by becoming skills mentors for students from some of their local primary schools.

The Business: Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Chester

Bank of America Merrill Lynch is one of the world’s largest financial institutions, serving individual consumers, small- and medium sized businesses and large corporations with a full range of banking, investing, asset management and other financial and risk management products and services.

The Challenge: Lend-A-Hand

The Lend-A-Hand challenge is all about Problem Solving and Staying Positive for the pupils as they learn about personal finance. Today the year 7 students engaged in a range of fun, fast paced activities in order to build their understanding of the necessity of budgeting. Through Working in a Team and Being Creative the pupils had to make important budgeting choices and ultimately take on the role of Financial Advisors. An important and inspiring part of the day was getting to interview the Bank of America Merrill Lynch staff and find out about the different roles they play in the running of the business, how their time at school inspired them and the crucial role the essential skills plays in their career development. This really helped to fire up the students and ensure they were Aiming High.

The Results:

The pupils were outstanding and engaged thoroughly with all the tasks and the volunteers. By Listening and Understanding the advice the employees gave them the students felt confident to stand up and present their financial advice and learnings from the day. It was great to see the more confident year 7s Leading their team mates so that everybody could finish the day proud of their Presenting skills.

What they said:

  • “I’m bursting with pride for the way the students behaved and engaged today. They were amazing” – Teacher
  • “The students really listened to what we said and gave it their all” – Volunteer, Bank of America Merrill Lynch
  • “We wouldn’t have got this team if we’d have picked who we got to work with so I’m really pleased we got to work with new people and the volunteers were so friendly and welcoming. It was a great day.” – Student, Queen’s Park High School
