The School:

Based in Merton, St Mark’s Academy is in its first year of working with Enabling Enterprise. Back in school, students have been busy developing their Enterprise Skills by creating a new society on the far distant planet Utopia, during their ‘Operation: Moonbase’ Challenge Day. Today’s trip was a fantastic opportunity for a select group of ten Year 7 students who really stood out on their Challenge Day to put their essential skills to the test in the world of work, particularly honing in on Being Creative and Presenting as they were supported by Pearce, Colm and Bobbi at Forward3D.

The Business:

Forward3D helps top brands stay visible online. For example Forward3D helps Nike, Ralph Lauren and Virgin Holidays advertise and reach customers over the internet. This may be through adverts before a YouTube video starts or by making sure certain brands come up when you do a Google search. The company employs over 300 people across offices in London, New York, Shanghai, Soul and Tokyo.

The Challenge: Marketing Moguls

The day started off with the students interviewing the volunteers to find out about their different roles, responsibilities and the Enterprise Skills required to do their jobs. Students then went on a tour of the premises, which allowed the teams to see the great variety of jobs available in the world of marketing.
Students took on the role of a marketing team at a new and exciting company that stocks and sells chairs. Teams first undertook crucial market research to find out what features and benefits Pearce, Colm and Bobbi wanted before Using Imagination to design a brand new chair. It was really important that students were Sharing Ideas with each other so that they could come up with the most creative and innovative design. Next up, teams decided on the most effective advertising strategy to promote their new product.
The day culminated in teams pitching their design and marketing ideas to a panel of judges in the hope that they could persuade them that their chair was the one to buy.

What they said:

  • “The students have had a truly excellent time and have experienced so many different things.” – Teacher
  • “It’s great for students to see the different careers on offer if they work hard and develop the skills.” – Volunteer
  • “Our company name is a combination of all our names because, as a group, we each have an equal but important role to play.” – Student
  • “Chairing is caring!” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great trip day!
