The School:

Clifton Primary School in Southall is in its 2nd year working with Enabling Enterprise. Back in school, students have been busy developing their Enterprise Skills by completing the ‘Operation: Moonbase‘ Challenge Day and ‘Number Games’ Lesson-Time Project. Today’s trip was a fantastic opportunity for students from Years 4 and 5 to put their Using Imagination and Sharing Ideas skills to the test with the support from professional business volunteers.

The Business:

Experian pH was established in 1987 with the objective of helping clients to understand their customer base and identify new business opportunities. The founders’ experience in consulting and IT has allowed pH to develop a series of database tools to model potential marketing opportunity with financial risk. Today, we were delighted to have Karuna, Olga, Fabrice, Gavin and Farah in attendance.

The Challenge: Marketing Moguls

The day started off with the students interviewing the volunteers to find out about their different roles, responsibilities and the Enterprise Skills required to do their jobs. Students then went on a tour of the premises, which allowed the teams to see the great variety of jobs available in the world of marketing.
Students took on the role of a marketing team at a new and exciting company that stocks and sells chairs. Teams first undertook crucial market research to find out what features and benefits the employees wanted before Using Imagination to design a brand new chair. It was really important that students were Sharing Ideas with each other so that they could come up with the most creative and innovative design. Next up, teams decided on the most effective advertising strategy to promote their new product.
The day culminated in teams pitching their design and marketing ideas to a panel of judges in the hope that they could persuade them that their chair was the one to buy.

What they said:

  • “You can see how the students are starting to use the skills more confidently. The challenge day and projects help them on a day like today.” – Teacher
  • “Today was very creative and really allowed them to show that skill” – Volunteer
  • “My team were the best at Sharing Ideas and Using Imagination, because we built off each other’s ideas and combined them to make our chair.” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great trip day!
