The School:

Eversley Primary School is in its second year working with Enabling Enterprise. Back in school, students have been busy developing their Enterprise Skills by setting up a new society on a distant moon. Today’s trip was a fantastic opportunity for a selection of students from Years 5 and 6 to put their Listening Carefully, Sharing Ideas and Problem Solving skills to the test with the support from professional business volunteers.

The Business:

Argos is a British catalogue retailer operating in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The company has over 842 physical stores and also trades online. With around 800 million website visits per year, Argos is also one of the largest online retailers in the United Kingdom. In 2016 Argos became part of Sainsbury’s.

The Challenge: Superior Service

The day started off with the students interviewing the volunteers to find out about their different roles, responsibilities and the Enterprise Skills required to do their jobs. Students then went on a tour of the premises, which allowed the teams to see the great variety of jobs available in the world of retail. A particular highlight was a visit to the stockroom here at the Holloway Road branch, where children got to see how orders are processed in real time.
Back in the room, students took on the role of Customer Service Assistants and were challenged to apply their Problem Solving skills to ensure customer experiences were positive and customer satisfaction remained high by Listening Carefully. Tasked with promoting customer loyalty, teams needed to create a brand-new scheme to attract and retain customers.

The day culminated in student Customer Service Teams presenting their work, putting their Sharing Ideas skills to use in demonstrating their understanding of customer service and customer loyalty incentives.

What they said:

  • “This has been great for them. They are used to coming to Argos, but now they see behind the scenes and all the hard work that goes into making it happen.” – Teacher
  • “This has been really fun. They are full of great ideas. We should use some of these!” – Volunteer
  • “To work in Customer Services you have to Solve Problems for customers, and Aim High to make sure every customer is happy.” – Student
  • “I am proud of our team today: we worked together and came up with a really great loyalty card. Customers will love it!” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great trip day!
