The School:

Thistley Hough Academy, in Stoke on Trent, is in their 2nd year working with Enabling Enterprise, keen to support their students to develop the essential skills required to support them now in their learning and in their future workplaces. Today was a fantastic opportunity for students from Year 8 to put their Enterprise Skills to the test and work together on a special enterprise challenge.

The Challenge: Social Entrepreneur

Over the course of the day, students used their Working in a Team skills to develop entrepreneurial solutions to social problems that need tackling. In teams, the students explored the different problems affecting the people in the community, before applying their Problem Solving skills and to decide on the best way to help them. After developing a plan for a new social enterprise and creating advertising materials, students used their Presenting skills to share their solutions.

What they said:

  • “Individuals have impressed me today – he has been focussed, engaged with his team and really keen to contribute – great to see.”- Teacher
  • “I struggled in my team to begin with but I know now staying positive really helps. “- Student
  • “I didn’t know what a social enterprise was before today. It’s been interesting.” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great Challenge Day!
