The School:

St Anne’s is in their first year working with Enabling Enterprise. Back in school, students have been busy developing their Enterprise Skills by taking part in Lesson Time Projects and preparing for their Challenge Day later this month. Today’s trip was a fantastic opportunity for students from Years five and six to put their Sharing Ideas and Problem Solving skills to the test with the support from professional business volunteers from CMS.

The Business:

CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP trading as CMS, is a multinational law firm headquartered in London, England. It has over 250 partners and 71 offices across Europe, the Middle East, North America and Asia. Their Manchester office is focused on construction, corporate finance, energy, infrastructure, M&A and real estate.

The Challenge: Tour the Law

The day started off with the students interviewing the volunteers to find out about their different roles, responsibilities and the Enterprise Skills required to do their jobs. Students then went on a tour of the premises, which allowed the teams to see the great variety of jobs available in the world of Law.
Taking on the role of Lawyers, students explored two different areas of law, Criminal and Business Law through separate cases designed to put their Problem Solving skills to the test. The first case saw them review police evidence and then play the part of a defence lawyer to build a case for their client. In the second task, the teams of students acted as mediators in a business merger, finding different possible solutions and considering the pros and cons of each.
Sharing Ideas skills were put to the test as new challenges arose, and also at the end of the day when each team presented their findings to a panel of professional judges.

What they said:

  • “They’ve done really well today, I’m very proud of how well they’ve worked together.” – Teacher
  • “The kids were great! The ideas the came up with and the discussions they were having were brilliant. ” – Volunteer
  • “We loved the bit where we chose which stores to keep and get rid of because we worked really well as a team and listened to each other’s ideas.” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great trip day!
