The School:

Clifton Primary School is in their second year working with Enabling Enterprise. Previously, students have been busy developing their Enterprise Skills by completing a double Challenge Day where they were launching not only their very own Greetings Card companies but also a creative range of souvenir businesses. They have also taken part in employer visits to stretch their enterprise skills outside the classroom, for example on their business trips to BBC Worldwide and to M&G. Today’s challenge was a fantastic opportunity for students from Years 4 and 5 to put all eight of their essential skills to the test once more with gusto. Let’s find out how they got on.

The Challenge: Operation Moonbase

Over the course of the day, students used their Working in a Team skills to establish a new society on a distant moon called Utopia. A series of challenges required teams to use their Enterprise Skills, particularly practising their Problem Solving, Using Imagination and Listening Carefully. Teams needed to select a crew to support them on their mission, then design a new species of animal to benefit society before finally creating a 3D model of their own dream city. The day culminated with both year groups meeting to share their model cities and use of the skills throughout the day. Clifton were also delighted to welcome Gurmeet Jassal from Catalyst Housing, to see all the fantastic work they had been doing!

What they said:

  • “Teamwork makes dreams work!” – Student
  • “This challenge has been great to get the students to think about their own learning and problem solving. It’s really got them to think about their teamwork and creativity too!” – Teacher
  • “I was getting quite upset earlier with some of my team, but I stopped and thought about all the work we could do well together. It was important to stay positive.” – Student
  • “It’s great to see a school and the children get to do something so creative at a time when it feels that the education system has so much emphasis on exams and grades.” – Gurmeet Jassal, Catalyst Housing

Thanks to everyone for such a great Challenge Day!
