The School:

Priestmead Primary School and Nursery is in its third year working with Enabling Enterprise. Previously, students have been busy developing their Enterprise Skills by launching a range of unique greetings card companies, solving a crime committed in school, or visiting a variety of businesses, such as on their latest trips to Save the Children and UBS. Today’s challenge was a fantastic opportunity for students from Year 2 to Year 6 to put their Enterprise Skills to the test once more with gusto, this time honing in on Leading and Using Imagination.

The Challenge: A Day in Politics

Over the course of the day, students had the opportunity to practise their Working in a Team skill by setting up their very own political parties. They dived head first into the world of politics, learning about democracy and carrying out debates before devising their own manifestos. Students were Sharing Ideas about which areas of society they wanted to help and how they might spend their money to support them. Finally, teams held hustings in their classes, campaigning to persuade their peers to vote for them. The challenge culminated with an exciting election in each classroom to determine who’d created the most persuasive political party.

What they said:

  • “This is the best Challenge Day so far in that it supports the curriculum the most, especially in literacy with the debate. And it’s days like this which really embed the learning, particularly the concept of democracy.” – Teacher
  • “Today the children have actually surprised me at how well they’ve been working as a team.” – Teacher
  • “A good leader listens to other people’s ideas.” – Student
  • “I found it difficult to pick who to help with our policies, but our secret is we’re joining our ideas together to make even better ones.” – Student
  • “I don’t actually like this side of the debate, but I’m sticking with my team because you’ve got to look on the bright side!” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great Challenge Day!
