The School:

The Winns Primary School is in their third year working with Enabling Enterprise. Back in school, students have been busy developing their Enterprise Skills by completing Challenge Days such as ‘Level Up!’ where they designed a video game, and recently ‘Future Transport’, where they came up with a wide range of hybrid vehicle prototypes. Today’s trip was a fantastic opportunity for students from Year 5 to put their Problem Solving and Leading skills to the test in the world of work, with the support from professional business volunteers

The Business:

Page Personnel operates in 21 countries worldwide. They have been providing specialist recruitment services since 1992 and their global network includes France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, Australia, USA and Singapore. In the UK they recruit temporary, contract and permanent staff nationwide, with offices from Edinburgh to Bristol.

The Challenge: Recruitment Race

The day started off with the students interviewing the volunteers to find out about their different roles, responsibilities and the Enterprise Skills required to do their jobs. Students then went on a tour of the premises, which allowed the teams to see the great variety of jobs available and to learn some valuable information about different departments. Teams were also lucky enough to sit at the grown-up recruiters’ desks and use their real-life equipment!

Back in the boardroom, the challenge for the students was to take on the role of a Human Resources teams on behalf of Page and decide on some new recruits to add to their books. First of all, they learned about the different jobs on offer and the different skills the right candidate would need to be successful in the role of a receptionist, cleaner and finance manager. They then needed to use their Problem Solving to match potential candidates to each job, thinking carefully about matching the right candidate to the right position based on their skills and past experience. It was really important that students were Sharing Ideas with each other so that they could come up with the most convincing reasons to hire each candidate.
The day culminated in teams pitching their choices to a panel of judges in the hope that they could persuade them that their Human Resources team was most effective in applying the Enterprise Skills.

What they said:

  • “There was a great variety of adult volunteers – they were enthusiastic and engaging. And what a fantastic hands-on tour! Also, great organisation of resources and great presentation from the EE team.” – Teacher
  • “We were really impressed with how well researched your presentation was and you were well measured in the way you spoke.” – Volunteer
  • “It was a very rewarding day: you could see them grow in confidence.” – Volunteer
  • “The kids were great: they only had positive comments between them – it was really good to see that.” – Volunteer
  • “We’ve made sure we’ve recruited the best candidates for you – so trust us, you won’t be disappointed!” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great trip day!
