The School:

Bromley-based Darrick Wood Junior School is in their third year of working with Enabling Enterprise. Previously, students have been busy developing their Enterprise Skills by taking part in several employer visits to top businesses across London such as international law firm Freshfields. The whole school has also completed a range of Lesson-Time Projects as well as Challenge Days where, for example, they investigated a mysterious Crime Scene. Today was another fantastic opportunity for students from Years 3 to 6 to put all eight of their essential Enterprise Skills to the test in a challenge that was sure to stretch their Working in a Team whilst Using Imagination to the highest standard.

The Challenge: Future Transport

Over the course of the day, students were Working in a Team to research, design, build and test a new form of transport for the future. They were set the challenge from Ronnie the Robot who’d travelled back in time to explain what the world would be like many years in the future. Teams applied their Problem Solving and Staying Positive skill through a series of challenges designed to put their skills to the test. At the end of the day, students tested each other’s designs and practised their presenting by Sharing Ideas in front of the class.

What they said:

  • ” I absolutely love these days – the children get so much out of them!” – Teacher
  • “This is brilliant for children especially because some of them don’t always get the opportunity to share in other contexts, but Challenge Days like this are brilliant for them to develop their collaborative skills. Plus, thinking about transport for the future is very, very current.” – Teaching Assistant
  • “There is a team of boys in this class who are usually not very well behaved in other lessons but today they’ve worked really well together; I’m really pleased to see that.” – Teacher
  • “Listening Carefully to your teammates is important because if you don’t, you might actually like their ideas [and miss out].” – Student
  • “When someone is upset in your team you can cheer them up and encourage to just try their best.” – Student
  • “We’re good at Staying Positive in my team because even if something goes wrong you can always turn it into something else.” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great Challenge Day!
