The School:

Kingsbury Green is in their fifth year working with Enabling Enterprise. Back in school, students will be developing their Enterprise Skills by designing a business in the Spring. Today’s trip was a fantastic opportunity for students from Year 4 to put their Sharing Ideas and Problem Solving skills to the test with the support from professional business volunteers.

The Business:

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP is a leader among international law firms and is a member of the Magic Circle of elite British law firms. Founded in 1743, it is a multinational law firm head-quartered in London, providing business law advice of the highest quality throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the US.

The Challenge: Tour the Law

The day started off with the students interviewing the volunteers to find out about their different roles, responsibilities and the Enterprise Skills required to do their jobs. Students then went on a tour of the premises, which allowed the teams to see the great variety of jobs available in the world of Law.
Taking on the role of Lawyers, students explored two different areas of law, Criminal and Business Law through separate cases designed to put their Problem Solving skills to the test. The first case saw them review police evidence and then play the part of a defence lawyer to build a case for their client. In the second task, the teams of students act as mediators in a business merger, finding different possible solutions and considering the pros and cons of each.
Sharing Ideas skills were put to the test as new challenges arose, and also at the end of the day when each team presented their findings to a panel of professional judges.

What they said:

  • “It was good that the children got a chance to interact with the lawyers at Freshfields.” – Teacher
  • “Thank you, I can’t believe how good at it they were.” – Volunteer
  • “We want to win the most skill points but if we don’t, we still shouldn’t give up.” – Student
  • “When you solve a problem, you have to identify the problem and look for more evidence.” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great trip day!
