The School:

Oasis Academy Woodview is in their fourth year working with Enabling Enterprise. Back in school, pupils have been busy developing eight essentials Enterprise Skills by successfully completing a range of Lesson-Time Projects, as well as taking part in Challenge Days such as Operation: Moonbase. Today’s trip was a fantastic opportunity for pupils from Year 2 to put their Using Imagination as they were Working in a Team outside the classroom with the support from professional business volunteers.

The Business:

The Birmingham Hospital Saturday Fund (BHSF) Limited is a market-leading not-for-profit health insurer which can trace its history back to a charity which started in 1873. Originally set up to help fund Birmingham hospitals, BHSF provide affordable health insurance for individuals, employees and intermediaries. Now, BHSF insures 400,000 people through 225,000 policies, most of which help customers with their everyday health costs.

The Challenge: Wonderful Office World

The day started off with the pupils interviewing the volunteers to find out about their different roles, responsibilities and the Enterprise Skills required to do their jobs. Pupils then went on a tour of the office, which allowed the teams to learn about how offices work and the great variety of jobs people do in them.
The 6- and 7-year old pupils then took on the role of Office Design Consultants and were challenged to show how amazing they were at Using Imagination and Working in a Team to design a fabulous new office space for the employees at BHSF. It was really important that pupils were Sharing Ideas with each other so that they could come up with the most creative and innovative designs – some of them included meeting hives, slides and even a mini office zoo!
The day culminated in teams pitching their design to our panel of judges from BHSF in the hope that they could persuade them that their new office design was simply the best.

What they said:

  • “A very interesting experience. The children had many opportunities to show off their teamwork and leadership skills.” – Teacher, Oasis Academy Woodview
  • “An extremely good day of learning and teamwork. The children were a credit to their school.” – Volunteer, BHSF
  • “Today we learnt a lot about what people do in an office.” – Pupil, Oasis Academy Woodview
  • “I really liked working in a team with my friends today.” – Pupil, Oasis Academy Woodview

Thanks to everyone for such a great trip day!
