The School:

Wendell Park is in their fourth year working with Enabling Enterprise. Back in school, students have been busy developing their Enterprise Skills and last year took part in the ‘Operation: Moonbase‘ Challenge Day. Today’s trip was a fantastic opportunity for students from Years 4 & 6 to put their Listening Carefully, Sharing Ideas and Problem Solving skills to the test with the support from professional business volunteers.

The Business:

Westfield Corporation is one of the world’s leading shopping centre companies with iconic retail destinations in London, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles among its portfolio of 40 centres.

The Challenge: Superior Services

The day started off with the students interviewing the volunteers to find out about their different roles, responsibilities and the Enterprise Skills required to do their jobs. Students then went on a tour of the shopping centre, which allowed the teams to see the great variety of jobs available in the world of retail and have a sneak behind the scenes to see what goes into keeping everything running smoothly.
Taking on the role of Customer Service Assistants, students were challenged to apply their Problem Solving skills to ensure customer experiences were positive and customer satisfaction remained high by Listening Carefully. Tasked with promoting customer loyalty, teams needed to create a brand-new scheme to attract and retain customers.

The day culminated in student Customer Service Teams presenting their work, putting their Sharing Ideas skills to use in demonstrating their understanding of customer service and customer loyalty incentives.

What they said:

  • “The pupils gained in confidence from taking part in the structured problem solving tasks today. Everything was based in a real world context and the children were able to draw on their own experiences and prior knowledge to help them.” – Teacher, Wendell Park Primary
  • “I was never exposed to anything like this when I was younger, they are such great skills to practice.” – Volunteer
  • “We’ve learnt that it takes a lot of hard work and is a team effort to make sure customers have a great time when they visit. We worked well in our teams by listening to each other and helping each other to stay positive.” – Student, Wendell Primary School

Thanks to everyone for such a great trip day!
