The School:

Queen’s Park High School is in their second year working with Enabling Enterprise. Back in school, students have been busy developing their Enterprise Skills by taking part in two Challenge Days at the end of last academic year. Today’s trip was a fantastic opportunity for students from Year 8 to excel at Being Creative outside the classroom and put their Presenting skills to the test in the world of work, with the support from professional business volunteers.

The Business:

Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is a non-ministerial department of the UK Government responsible for the collection of taxes, the payment of some forms of state support, and the administration of other regulatory regimes including the national minimum wage.

The Challenge: Marketing Moguls

The day started off with the students interviewing the volunteers to find out about their different roles, responsibilities and the Enterprise Skills required to do their jobs. Students then went on a tour of the premises, which allowed the teams to see the great variety of jobs available in the world of marketing.
Students took on the role of a marketing team at a new and exciting company that stocks and sells chairs. Teams first undertook crucial market research to find out what features and benefits the employees wanted before Using Imagination to design a brand-new chair. It was really important that students were Sharing Ideas with each other so that they could come up with the most creative and innovative design. Next up, teams decided on the most effective advertising strategy to promote their new product.
The day culminated in teams pitching their design and marketing ideas to a panel of judges in the hope that they could persuade them that their chair was the one to buy.

What they said:

  • “I was so impressed by the team work today, the way the students worked together, spoke to one another and showed respect to one another was fantastic I am so proud of them, I actually feel a bit emotional.” – Teacher
  • “It was a great day, the students were great, I loved it, put me down for the nextx one!” – Volunteer
  • “I participated much more today than I normally do and, than I thought I would. Once I knew that we would have to present our ideas back at the end I was determined to make sure some of my ideas were included so I made sure I joined in the discussion.” – Student
  • “I don’t normally speak in presentations today but I did today, I surprised myself!” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great trip day!
