The School:

St Anne’s, Crumpsall is in their first year working with Enabling Enterprise and today’s trip was a fantastic opportunity for students from Year 5 to put their Listening Carefully, Sharing Ideas and Problem Solving skills to the test with the support from professional business volunteers. As a first experience of enterprise education with EE, the students couldn’t have asked for a better host or a more challenging task.

The Business:

Selfridges has been in Exchange Square, Manchester since 2002. Selfridges has been named Best Department Store in the World three times. They host the hottest new designers and most-wanted brands. With volunteers from all areas of the business from Stock Control and Menswear to Leaning & Development and Customer Experience, the students were well supported.

The Challenge: Superior Services

The day started off with the students interviewing the volunteers to find out about their different roles, responsibilities and the Enterprise Skills required to do their jobs. Students then went on a tour of the premises, which allowed the teams to see the great variety of jobs available in the world of retail.
Taking on the role of Customer Service Assistants, students were challenged to apply their Problem Solving skills to ensure customer experiences were positive and customer satisfaction remained high by Listening Carefully. Tasked with promoting customer loyalty, teams needed to create a brand-new scheme to attract and retain customers.

The day culminated in student Customer Service Teams presenting their work, putting their Sharing Ideas skills to use in demonstrating their understanding of customer service and customer loyalty incentives.

What they said:

  • “We were really worried about how some of the groups would get along, but they’ve been fantastic, really on task and engaged.” – Teacher
  • “What a great day. The kids were amazing and the ideas they came up with were wonderful.” – Volunteer
  • “There’s so much to think about when dealing with customers but it’s all really important.” – Student
  • “This is definitely my favourite shop now!” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great trip day!
