The School:

In their second year working with Enabling Enterprise De Lacy are fast becoming skills experts. Back in school, students have been busy developing their Enterprise Skills by taking part in Year Group Challenge Days. Today’s trip was a fantastic opportunity for students from Year 8 and 10 to put their Sharing Ideas and Problem Solving skills to the test with the support from professional business volunteers.

The Business:

Addleshaw Goddard is an international, corporate law firm headquartered in London with offices in Leeds and Manchester. They employ 750 lawyers focusing on commercial, corporate and employment law. Today’s venue, the impressive offices in Leeds City Centre.

The Challenge: Tour the Law

The day started off with the students interviewing the volunteers to find out about their different roles, responsibilities and the Enterprise Skills required to do their jobs. Students then went on a tour of the premises, which allowed the teams to see the great variety of jobs available in the world of Law.
Taking on the role of Lawyers, students explored two different areas of law, Criminal and Business Law through separate cases designed to put their Problem Solving skills to the test. The first case saw them review police evidence and then play the part of a defence lawyer to build a case for their client. In the second task, the teams of students acted as mediators in a business merger, finding different possible solutions and considering the pros and cons of each.
Sharing Ideas skills were put to the test as new challenges arose, and also at the end of the day when each team presented their findings to a panel of professional judges.

What they said:

  • “What a wonderful day! It’s been really great to see some of the more shy and quiet kids getting involved and being part of a team” – Teacher
  • “The students were so nice. Such a fantastic group of kids, the year 10s really looked after the year 8s too.” – Volunteer
  • “I am proud of everyone for getting up and speaking. We all did it as a team” – Student
  • “I was really surprised how nice everyone is, it’s really posh and impressive but everyone was really welcoming. ” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great trip day!
