The School:

Lynn Grove Academy is in their 2nd year working with Enabling Enterprise. Previously, students have been busy developing their Enterprise Skills for their Day in Politics with Year 8 last year. Today’s challenge was a fantastic opportunity for students in Year 8 and Year 11 to put their Enterprise Skills to the test in this double challenge day.

The Challenges: Business in a Day and Commit to Confidence

Year 8 students became entrepreneurs for the day by competing in teams to set up a company selling merchandise for their chosen event. Students needed to demonstrate that they were Working in a Team throughout a set of mini-challenges. Being Creative and Problem Solving were really important when it came to branding their company, designing their product and creating their prototype. Teams were working towards pitching for investment in their new companies and needed to demonstrate clearly how tey intended to spend their money. The challenge culminated with teams Presenting their work and also reflecting on the skills they had used throughout the day.

Over the course of the day, Year 11students worked together to develop their confidence, with a focus on how they could use and apply their Enterprise Skills, such asAiming High, Being Creative, Leading, Listening and Understanding, Presenting, Problem Solving, Staying Positive and Working in a Team. They began by considering what confidence is and why developing these skills is important. Throughout the rest of the day, students applied their Enterprise Skills to a range of professional scenarios in preparation for life beyond school. Finally, students looked back at how they’d ranked themselves on the Enterprise Skills from the morning and thought about meaningful targets for the future.

What they said:

  • “This is the best PSHE day I have run – I’ve seen some students speak up and others work together. You only get such a short amount of time with them in the morning I feel like I know them much better now” – Teacher, Year 11
  • “The teams have worked really well together throughout the day – some teams have shared what’s worked well with others to help them get better too” – Teacher
  • “It’s important to encourage others because it actually brings you up to. I want to be a business woman now and I’d never really thought about it, a CEO of my own company” – Student
  • “I think we have done well because we have actually listened to each other, our logo included a little bit of everyone’s ideas. We made sure that we really talked before we started so we knew we were all going in the same direction” – Student, Year 8

Thanks to everyone for such a great Challenge Day!
