The School:

President Kennedy School, in Coventry, is in their fourth year of working with Enabling Enterprise. Students from President Kennedy School are always keen to demonstrate their Enterprise Skills and today’s trip was a fantastic opportunity for students from Year 8 to put their Being Creative, Problem Solving and Working in a Team skills to the test with the support from professional business volunteers from IBM.

The Business:

IBM is one of the most famous information technology companies in the world. It now focuses on generating innovative solutions for business problems far more than on producing hardware.

The Challenge: Tech-Xperts

This tech-based challenge set teams the task of designing their very own app that solves communication concerns across the company. After completing market research and a tour of the office workspace, their Listening and Understanding skills were put to the test when asking insightful questions to the IBM employees about their problems communicating with colleagues. Later, teams needed to be creative and decide on a catchy company name and app design to make life easier for IBM staff.
Working to tight deadlines, the teams looked at how they could most effectively share their ideas to come up with a truly unique app. Competition was high between the teams and they all wanted to convince the judges at the end of the day that their creativity and Problem Solving was of the highest standard. Every team rose to the challenge with a range of forward-thinking solutions, making the judges’ decision difficult when it came to picking a winning team.

What they said:

  • “The students have really risen to the challenge and I can see how their skills have improved over the day. It’s been great to see them working independently and succeeding on a challenging task.” – Helen Petrak, Head of Business and Enterprise, President Kennedy School
  • “I was impressed with how engaged the students were all day. They got really involved and showed great problem-solving skills. It was a fantastic enterprise experience for them.” – Volunteer, IBM
  • “I have had the greatest time of my life at IBM. I have never worked as hard as I have today and I’m really proud of myself, especially how I stood up and presented at the end of the day.” – Year 8 Student, President Kennedy School

Thanks to everyone for such a great trip day!
