The School:

The Bridge Academy in Hackney is in their 7th year working with Enabling Enterprise. Last year’s Year 8 students were lucky enough to visit Forward3D for a business trip in July. http://enablingenterprise.org/archives/22253 Today’s challenge was a fantastic opportunity for students from this year’s Year 8 to put their Enterprise Skills to the test by delving into the world of politics.

The Challenge: A Day in Politics

The day started with the whole year group coming together to think about some key political terms and the skills they would be using throughout the day’s activities. Over the course of the day, students had the opportunity to practise Working in a Team by setting up their very own political parties.
They dived head first into the world of politics, reviewing what they already knew through the politics quiz. Then, teams worked hard to develop the power of persuasion by carrying out debates on whether or not people should be fined for not voting. After looking at the existing policies on crime and education of current political parties, teams wrote their own manifestos, laying out exactly how they planned to help the UK. Being Creative, teams made decisions about their party name, colours and slogan before preparing for the end of day hustings.
The year group came back together again to listen to presentations from the winning teams of each class before electing the overall winning political party for Year 8.

PICTURE #3

What they said:

  • “I’ve been quite impressed by their policy ideas. There was a huge range of background knowledge at the start of this day but they have managed to come to a shared understanding now which should help them in the future.” – Teacher
  • “There are some students who really do not like to present and yet they were more engaged than usual in helping their team.” – Teacher
  • “I really didn’t know anything about politics but now I realise it is part of almost everything in our life.” – Student
  • “Our team worked best when we listened to each other. It is important for politicians to do that.” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great Challenge Day!
