The School:

Nine Acres Primary is in their first year working with Enabling Enterprise, not only is this their first Challenge Day but they are the very first school on the Isle of Wight to be partnering with Enabling Enterprise. All staff at Nine Acres Primary are passionate about ensuring that their students leave school with the essential skills such as Working in a Team,
Aiming High and Working in a Team. Today’s challenge was a fantastic opportunity for students throughout the whole school to put their Enterprise Skills to the test.

The Challenge: A Day in Politics

Over the course of the day, students had the opportunity to practice their Working in a Team skill by setting up their very own political parties. They dived head first into the world of politics, learning about democracy and carrying out debates, deciding on what the winning prize should be and creating their manifestos. Students were Sharing Ideas about which areas of society they wanted to help and how they might spend their money to support them. Finally, teams held an exciting election to determine who’d created the most persuasive political party!
To help bring the Day in Politics to life further, the school arranged for Hannah Chilton, a member of the Isle of Wight Youth Council to visit in the afternoon, it was a fantastic opportunity for the students to see the how politics plays a role in their local community and how they can get involved in the future.

What they said:

  • “It’s important that students learn about politics in school so they can understand what is going on around them and out in the real world.” – Hannah, Isle of Wight Youth Council Member
  • “It’s been a fantastic day, mixing up the Year 5 & 6 classes has allowed them a chance to shine amongst their peers who they don’t usually work with.” – Y5 teacher
  • “It’s great to do a team vote because people need to think more about what others want rather than just themselves” – Year 3 student
  • “We enjoyed working in a team because we can get more done and we can help each other out” – Year 2 student

Thanks to everyone for such a great Challenge Day!
