The School:

Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Primary is in their first year working with Enabling Enterprise and are keen to see their pupils develop their enterprise skills through running an extensive, all-school programme. Today’s challenge was a fantastic opportunity for students from Year 1 to Year 6 to put their skills to the test and begin their journey on becoming enterprising individuals.

The Challenge: Level Up!

Over the course of the day, students delved into the world of gaming and used their Working in a Team skills to design and code a new computer game set in their very own school! In a series of tasks based on eight Enterprise Skills, such as Using Imagination and Problem Solving, teams needed to reflect on their school values, research computer games and code a platforming game that showcased what makes their school great. The day culminated in EE Games Expo, where each team presented their exciting new game.

From the outset the students were engrossed in the technology-based challenge and quickly established that the essence of the day was about showcasing their skills. This made for fruitful scoreboards and a strong sense of inter-class competition. For the year groups that had mixed their pupils across the two class, the pupils rose to the challenge of working with people that would not normally feel comfortable with and spoke about developing their confidence through stepping out of their comfort zone. From KS1 though to upper KS2, the pupils practised the eight enterprise skills and demonstrated they were more aware of what the skills meant to them and why they were important in the day’s challenge.

What they said:

  • “The students have been so engaged and have loved working in teams and being creative.” – Teacher
  • “I am so surprised at how well some students have worked together. We intentionally mixed the students to create groups there would not be as comfortable with and they have managed it extremely well.” – Teacher
  • “I have learned that working in a team is better than doing it on my own. You get more done.” – Student
  • “I know I need to keep thinking how I can do better – aiming high.” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great Challenge Day!
