The School:

The Winns are in their third year working with Enabling Enterprise. Previously, students have been busy developing their Enterprise Skills such as Sharing Ideas at Freshfields law firm and Problem Solving during their computer-game based ‘Level Up!’ Challenge Day. Today’s challenge was a fantastic opportunity for students from Nursery to Year 6 to put their Enterprise Skills to the test.

The Challenge: Future Transport

Over the course of the day, students were Working in a Team to research, design, build and test a new form of transport for the future. In Key Stage 1 and 2, they were set the challenge from Ronnie the Robot who’d travelled back in time to explain what the world would be like many years in the future. In EYFS, children were shown three characters: a mermaid, snow wizard and ogre. They were set the challenge of designing a new form of transport that would help their chosen character. Across the school teams applied their Problem Solving and Staying Positive skill through a series of challenges designed to put their skills to the test. At the end of the day, students tested each others’ designs and practised their presenting by Sharing Ideas in front of the class.

What they said:

  • “I’ve been so impressed by how you’ve got much better at listening to each other and so you’ve decided on one idea as a team. Some adults even struggle to decide on one idea as a group and you’re already able to do that aged 6-7!” – KS1 Teacher
  • “It is great seeing them working on things like teamwork so early. We have had some valuable conversations about sharing and turn-taking.” – EYFS Teacher
  • “We found it difficult to work in a team at the beginning but now we’ve just finished creating our final design with all of our ideas in one! – LKS2 Student
  • “We used all of the skills. We had to work together and when we made mistakes, it didn’t matter. We just had to make improvements.” – UKS2 Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great Challenge Day!
