The School: The Winns Primary School

The Winns Primary School is in their third year working with Enabling Enterprise. Back in school, students have been busy developing their Enterprise Skills by completing the Level Up! Challenge Day, where students demonstrated their Using Imagination and Sharing Ideas skills in the world of computer gaming!

Today’s trip was a fantastic opportunity for students from Year 5 to put their Listening Carefully and Sharing Ideas skills to the test with the support from professional business volunteers.

The Business: Save the Children UK

Save the Children run world-class programmes to save children’s lives and challenge world leaders to keep to their promises to give children a brighter future. They work in more than 120 countries, including the UK.

The Challenge: Spread the Word

Today’s challenge was to Spread the Word about Save the Children by creating an exciting new mascot with an important message.

Throughout the day, students asked thoughtful questions to ensure they really understood the work that Save the Children do to help those in poverty and experiencing life-threatening hunger. They had these areas of the charity’s work in mind when they toured the offices and interviewed the staff.

Later in the day, the students took on the roles of news anchors and top journalists to Share Ideas on how Save the Children help young people all over the world. Their knowledge and understanding of the ideas was clear as teams put forward their presentations with confidence, much to the appreciation of the panel of judges!

What they said:

  • “The students have acquired the confidence to present and create new ideas, as well as understand the scale of Save the Children.” – Teacher, The Winns
  • “The students were showing the skills from the very start of the day and got better and more confident as the day went on.” – Volunteer, Save the Children
  • “I didn’t realise all the work that Save the Children did. I would like to work here one day.” – Student, The Winns
  • “I loved designing the new mascot. It felt really good to be allowed to create whatever we wanted.” – Student, The Winns

Thanks to everyone for such a great trip day!
