The School:

Cubitt Town Infants are in their fourth year of working with Enabling Enterprise. Back in school, students have been busy developing their Enterprise Skills by setting up their own Community Café. Today’s trip was a fantastic opportunity for students from Year 2 to put their Working in a Team and Leading skills to the test with the support from professional business volunteers.

The Business:

Royal HaskoningDHV is an international, engineering consultancy firm with headquarters in the Netherlands. It has 100 offices in 35 countries, employing more than 8,000 professionals. Click here to see one project the firm is currently working on in Doha.

The Challenge: Wonderful Workers

The day started off with the students interviewing the volunteers to find out about their different roles, responsibilities and the Enterprise Skills required to do their jobs. Students then went on a tour, which brought the world of work to life!
Students worked in teams to look at all the different ways that the world of work is similar to being at school. Over the course of the day, teams had the opportunity to visit different work stations, which looked at different types of jobs that people do, including finance, human resources, site management and advertising. Teams also earnt money for demonstrating their enterprise skills as well as getting the job done! At the end of the day, students were ready to create their very first CV, followed by a reflection on which job they liked the most as well as how well they had been Working in a Team and Leading.

What they said:

  • “Students embraced some of the key enterprise skills. They met adults and found out about their jobs. The day opened their eyes about career opportunities.” – Teacher
  • “The kids have been amazing to work with and the challenges they did were very diverse. For the students, it was a great introduction to the world of work.” – Volunteer
  • “I liked the tour because we found out that someone’s job is to help people find old things like dinosaurs!” – Student
  • “I showed Leading when I helped my friend with her reading.” – Student

Thanks to everyone for such a great trip day!
