The School: Matchborough First School Academy

Matchborough First School in Redditch are in their third year of working with Enabling Enterprise. Today, it was the turn of a group of Year 4 girls who have been taking part in a ‘STEM’ project throughout the year. This was a great chance for them to see the kind of careers their interests in technology and engineering could lead to!

The Business: Bouygues UK, Birmingham

Formerly known as Thomas Vale, Bouygues UK has offices and sites across the country and draws on the heritage and support of the Bouygues Group, which operates in over 80 countries, spanning construction, civil works, energy, services, telecommunications and media. Bouygues UK delivers award-winning construction, development and regeneration projects to the most exacting standards from mixed-used commercial developments and schools to luxury apartments and signature public buildings. From their Birmingham office, they oversee projects across the Midlands and the North of England.

The Challenge: Brilliant Builds

Today’s challenge required our budding architects, planners and engineers from Matchborough to use their imagination and work in a team to redevelop a brownfields site in the town of Bogsby. After thinking about what the community would need, the teams were lucky enough to go on a brilliant tour of the Bouygues office and have the chance to interview a range of construction professionals. By Sharing Ideas with them, the Matchborough teams had the chance to get some invaluable feedback.

The Results:

At the end of the day, the students delivered their visions for redeveloping Bogsby by presenting their 3-D models to our two Bouygues volunteers who were in role as expert judges. The creativity and Problem Solving skills demonstrated were outstanding, but what particularly impressed the judges was how the ideas reflected all the Listening Carefully that had been done throughout the day.

What they said:

  • “They are a really confident group so it is nice for them to be able to stretch that even further and have the chance to talk to different adults.” – Teacher, Matchborough First School
  • “I am really impressed with what they came up with and how they managed to get over any problems they had in their team in time for the final presentation.” – Volunteer, Bouygues UK
  • “I really liked building our model of the site and talking everyone through it. I think our ideas were really imaginative and I’m proud of that.” – Student, Matchborough First School

Thanks to Bouygues UK for such a great trip day, and to Year 4 from Matchborough First School Academy for coming along.
