The School: Claremont Primary School

Claremont Primary School have been working with Enabling Enterprise since 2014 and with enterprise education being such an important focus in the school, the students arrived for today’s trip determined to demonstrate their skills. Following on from their success in solving the terrible crimes of the ‘Sugar Snatcher’ in their CSI Challenge Day back in January, it was fantastic to see the pupils in action in a Manchester City Centre work place.

The Business: RSA, Manchester

RSA is one of the world’s leading multinational quoted insurance groups. We provide insurance and risk management for businesses and individuals across the globe. Focusing on general insurance, we have around 23,000 employees worldwide. RSA Manchester has been hosting Enabling Enterprise trips for the past two years and the arrival of specialist judges towards the end of the day always ensures pupils are Aiming High and doing their best to impress.

The Challenge: Trading Triumphs

As the pupils were arranged into teams, that included years 3 to 6, it became clear that Working in a Team would be the key to success as they became Stock Market Traders. It was their job to ensure they were Listening Carefully to make sure they knew what their client, Dr Taylor, wanted so they could invest her money in companies she would support. Using their critical thinking skills and being sure that they included all team members in their discussions, the teams had three opportunities to make the biggest profit they could for Dr Taylor. Staying Positive
was important as the shares did not always do what was expected!

The Results:

With year 5 and 6 students Leading their teams, the pupils proved they had the Problem Solving skills necessary to navigate The Stock Exchange. By Sharing Ideas and Using Imagination, they were able to learn from each round in order to make decisions they all agreed on. Finally, they relished the opportunity to present in front of the judges and explain how and why they were the best team. The score board was over flowing by the time the last team presented and this was further proof of what a great example the pupils at Claremont are of Primary enterprise.

What they said:

  • “I’m so proud of how they have behaved and engaged today, they didn’t know each other very well but they got on with it and they have all excelled.” – Teacher, Claremont Primary School
  • “It was amazing to see the way the students learnt to work with each other as the day went on. You could really see the improvement.” – Volunteer, RSA
  • “I’m really proud of how well I listened to other people in my team today and how this helped us to make the best decisions.” – Student, Claremont Primary School

Thanks to RSA for such a great trip day, and to Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 from Claremont Primary School for coming along.
