The School: Powell’s C of E Primary School

Powell’s C of E Primary School in Gloucestershire have been partnering with Enabling Enterprise for six years. This year they are developing key enterprise skills with their students through projects such as Community Café and Big Business Challenge. After a first group of Year 4 pupils had a chance to stretch their enterprise skills to the world of work yesterday, today a second group of Year 4 students were keen to show off their progress at Bromford!

The Business: Bromford, Cirencester

Bromford is a leading provider of affordable homes in the UK and owns around 26,000 properties. The company has been in the sector for over 50 years and has been recognised with numerous awards for its work to support the communities it serves.

The Challenge: Spread the Word

Over the course of the day pupils worked with volunteers from Bromford to take part in the Spread the Word Enterprise Challenge. They were challenged to research the work of Bromford by interviewing employees, testing their Listening Carefully skills, and taking a tour around the offices to meet other employees from different areas of the business. Students were Aiming High as they walked round the offices, asking lots of questions to find out more about Bromford. Using Imagination skills then came to the fore when teams were tasked with creating a mascot for Bromford to spread the word to young people about the important work that they do. Once they had their mascots in place it was time to put together a presentation that would outline what Bromford do as well as introducing their mascots to the world.

The Results:

Year 4 pupils wowed the Bromford volunteers as they worked exceptionally well together. All teams had some fantastic ideas for their mascots and on ways to spread the word to young people, including Brommy; an umbrella mascot who represented Bromford keeping you safe and dry. Working in a Team to meet the tight deadline, students also thought about what their mascots would say to spread the words of Bromford. The afternoon saw increasingly confident teams Sharing Ideas and Presenting their new mascot to the Bromford volunteers, now turned judges, who were very impressed at the quality of the presentations. Choosing a winning team was a tricky decision!

What they said:

  • “I was so impressed with how everyone presented so clearly and confidently. It’s been a brilliant day! ” – Teacher, Powell’s C of E Primary School
  • “The task fitted really well with Bromford, our values and what we’re about. The pace of the activities was great; it meant that everyone was engaged in the activities throughout. ” – Volunteer, Bromford, Cirencester
  • “I’m really proud of how we presented our ideas to the judges and have enjoyed working in my team to make our mascot!” – Year 4 student, Powell’s C of E Primary School

Thanks to Bromford, Cirencester for such a great trip day, and to Year 4 from Powell’s C of E Primary School for coming along.
