The School: Powell’s C of E Primary School

Powell’s Primary School, located in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, are one of Enabling Enterprise’s longest standing partners, having worked with us for six years to develop the enterprise skills of their pupils. All of the year groups participated in this exciting challenge. Year 4 were particularly keen to demonstrate the skills that they exercised on their recent trips to the local Bromford office.

The Challenge: Crime Scene Investigation

The Powell’s pupils became detectives for the day, assisting the police in their investigation into the school’s stolen chocolate supply. The children worked in teams to assess a variety of evidence and decide which of the four suspects was guilty. The evidence included verbal statements, audio recordings from the crime scene and fingerprints. At the end of the day, each team presented their decision regarding the guilty suspect to their classmates.

The Results:

Across the entire school, there was great enthusiasm to find the culprit, with all children aiming high in their exciting detective roles. The teams listened carefully to the evidence supplied and shared ideas until they reached a consensus. The evidence by no means led to a straightforward conclusion, aspects were unclear and sometimes seemingly contradictory, so created problems that the teams had to work together to solve. The final presentations included impressive explanations and justifications for the difficult choice that had been made between the suspects, and demonstrated very supportive teamwork.

What they said:

  • “My class have recently completed the Community Café project in lesson-time. This challenge is really highlighting the skill development that occurred through the project.” – Teacher, Year 2
  • “We’ve really enjoyed the challenge today. Our team has solved problems, listened carefully to each other as we shared ideas and aimed high to find the sugar snatcher.” – Student, Year 3

Well done to everyone who was involved.
