The School: Ark Priory Primary

Ealing-based Ark Priory Primary School have worked with Enabling Enterprise since the Autumn term of this academic year. Their students have put their enterprise skills to the test in Lesson-Time Projects such as ‘Food Glorious Food’ where they have been designing their own recipe books from scratch. Today was the opportunity for a selection of Year 3 students to show off their Staying Positive and Problem Solving skills in the unpredictable world of investment banking, guided by a selection of expert volunteers from across UBS.

The Business: UBS, London

UBS is a global bank, providing services in over 50 countries. Specialising in Wealth Management and Global Asset Management they provide services for high net worth individuals, private, corporate, and institutional clients all over the world. Worldwide, UBS employs 60,099 people who speak more than 130 languages and are citizens of 135 countries.

The Challenge: Trading Triumphs

Students began the day by learning a little bit about UBS and the jobs of our UBS volunteers in an introduction hot seat. After gaining an understanding of investment banking, the students set about their challenge of taking on the role of Stock Market traders. Our aspiring traders were introduced to their client, scientist Dr Taylor, who placed her trust with each team to help her make a large return on her £25,000 initial investment. Listening Carefully to various sources of stock-market information, each group maximised their Problem Solving skills to make decisions about which companies would grow the most and earn them the largest investment returns.

The Results:

This fast-paced challenge certainly tested all of the young entrepreneurs – they needed to take calculated risks, stretching their Staying Positive skills as the stock market fluctuated. Utilising their Maths knowledge from school, each team was able to calculate the changes in their stock value and finally the amount of profit made on Dr Taylor’s investment. The UBS volunteers were extremely impressed with the children’s teamwork skills and ability to formally present their successes and difficulties in front of the panel of judges at the end of the day.

What they said:

  • “Some fantastically engaging and well-explained presentations today from a remarkedly young set of kids.” – Volunteer, UBS
  • “We used our Problem Solving to make quick decisions about a lot of information, and we had to take risks at the right time.” – Student, Ark Priory Primary

Thanks to UBS for such a great trip day, and to Year 3 from Ark Priory Primary for coming along.
