The Schools: Moorthorpe Primary School, St Cuthbert and First Martyr’s Catholic and St Francis Catholic Primary School

Experiencing their first Enabling Enterprise challenge, students from St Francis joined Moorthorpe and St Cuthbert in an exciting day. Having experienced projects and a Challenge Day, Moorthorpe and St Cuthbert and First Martyr’s were well prepared to support their new team as they began a very tricky but exciting task.

The Business: Addleshaw Goddard, Leeds

Addleshaw Goddard is an international, corporate law firm headquartered in London with offices in Leeds and Manchester. They employ 750 lawyers focusing on commercial, corporate and employment law. Today’s venue, the impressive and grand offices in Leeds.

The Challenge: Ace Advocates

Six teams: three cases. After Listening Carefully to learn all about Addleshaw Goddard, their employees and touring the building and workspaces, the students commenced their challenge. Their task, to understand the needs of their clients and decipher what information could be harmful or helpful to their case, created an early need for Listening Carefully and Problem Solving. Whether it was a disagreement over a planned high-speed trainline, a supermarket or a new blockbuster movie, the teams were faced with the difficult task of Working in a Team to represent their clients to the best of their ability.

The Results:

Aiming High and Sharing Ideas, the newly formed Legal teams ended the day with an important series of presentations, negotiations and compromises. Staying Positive was the key, as the opposing teams struggled to find compromises that each would be happy to accept. With some impressive presentation skills and showing great confidence, each group and team member stood firm, demonstrating just how hard they had worked throughout the day.

What they said:

  • “What a great day. The kids were engaged and it was really good to see how well they worked with children from other schools” – Teacher, Moorthorpe Primary School
  • “The best thing about the day was when the children reflected on what they had done to achieve their final presentation, most talking about initiatives such as sharing ideas and aiming high. I felt that each of the children went away knowing they had worked cooperatively all day in order to achieve their final presentation, which were all very impressive.” – Volunteer, Addleshaw Goddard
  • “I am really proud of how well my team worked with each other. I thought it would be hard to work with each other but we all listened to each other’s ideas ” – Student, St Cuthbert and First Martyr’s Catholic Primary School

Thanks to Addleshaw Goddard for such a great trip day, and to Years 3, 4 and 5 from Moorthorpe Primary School, St Cuthbert and First Martyr’s Catholic Primary School and St Francis Catholic Primary School for coming along.
