The School: Carlton Primary

Situated in the London borough of Camden, Carlton Primary School are in their 4th year of working with Enabling Enterprise and students at the school have been working hard over that time to develop their skills on a variety of Challenge Days, Lesson Time Projects and business trips. For this particular business trip, students from two classes in Year 4 joined us at Colliers International.

The Business: Colliers International, London

Colliers International is a leader in global real estate, offering comprehensive services to investors, property owners, tenants and developers around the world. A subsidiary of First Service Corporation, Colliers has 502 offices worldwide and employs over 16,000 people. Today a selection of volunteers from various departments were on hand to help our students with their skill development and planning challenges.

The Challenge: Brilliant Builds

The Year 4 students of Carlton Primary were given a huge task of working as construction companies to take on the Brilliant Builds enterprise challenge. Today’s task required our teams to demonstrate brilliant Leading and Sharing Ideas as they were set the task of redeveloping a brownfield site in the town of Bogsby – creating a space that would benefit the community and the environment. Before they began planning their development, they were able to get a fantastic insight into the development industry by interviewing our expert volunteers who had joined us from Colliers and going on a tour of the offices to see the work behind property development. After deciding which buildings they felt were most needed by their Bogsby residents, the teams were tasked with building a scale model of their development site, and then presenting their work to a panel of judges from Colliers International.

The Results:

Showing great Leading and Using Imagination skills, the teams were quick to design and build their visions of Bogsby town centre, with top Working in a Team skills proving necessary to help them meet their strict deadlines. The Colliers volunteers were hugely impressed by how thoughtful students had been in planning developments which balanced the needs of the community with thinking about how to make it attractive and multi-functional, and the childrens’ presentations communicated this thought process very effectively.

What they said:

  • “It’s great to see students recognising strengths in their team and giving each other appropriate tasks to do” – Teacher, Carlton Primary
  • “Presenting is such an important skill so it’s really great to be instilling this at a young age, I wish this was around when I was at school!” – Volunteer, Colliers International
  • “We had to have great Leading skills for when we changed our idea and there wasn’t much time left to build” – Student, Carlton Primary

Thanks to Colliers International for such a great trip day, and to Year 4 from Carlton Primary for impressing us with their creativity and drive.
