The School: Harris Primary Academy Chafford Hundred

From the beautiful surroundings of Chafford Hundred in the Thurrock countryside, Harris Primary Academy Chafford Hundred were taking on their first taste of Enabling Enterprise. With one of their core values as teamwork, today was very fitting to put the students’ Enterprise Skills to the test, especially on this art-related challenge where Using Imagination was paramount.

The Challenge: Creative Spaces

The day kicked off with a special assembly explaining that students had been set the challenge of designing a brand new community arts centre for their local area. Year 1 to Year 6 set off to come up with creative but practical designs, Working in a Team to ensure that every team member had a role and felt part of the design process. From the outset, it was quite clear that every single team had countless imaginative ideas to show off – the excitement, creativity and enthusiasm were palpable. After the aspiring architects finished designing their arts centres, the students then had to present their ideas to a planning committee with the intention of persuading them that their design would be the most fitting and the most successful centre for the local area.

The Results:

The day was full of mini-challenges for all teams, but the students were brilliant at Staying Positive despite the difficulties that came their way, and the tight deadlines they worked against. They worked exceptionally well together, and their ideas got more refined and more creative as they added special features, being very forward-thinking in their Problem Solving. The 3D models they created for their community were a real testament to how good they were at Listening Carefully to each other to make sure their project was unique. Teachers were thoroughly impressed with the Enterprise Skills in use in their classrooms, so much so that scoreboards were full of points rewarding the teams’ successes throughout the day. The students made it a really tricky task indeed for the adults in each classroom to pick an overall winning team!

What they said:

  • “I don’t think I have ever seen them work together like this – looking at them now you wouldn’t believe that the boys and the girls in this class are normally like Montagues and Capulets!” – Teacher, Year 5
  • “We are the best team today because we have really tried our hardest on everything we had to do.” – Student, Year 3

Well done to everyone who was involved.
