The School: Honilands Primary School

Honilands Primary School in Enfield are in their first year of working with Enabling Enterprise to develop their students’ key enterprise skills such as Working in a Team, Staying Positive and Using Imagination. So far this year, Years 3, 4 and 6 have all taken part in an enterprise project and some students from Year 4 were lucky enough to go on a business trip to Argos to put their enterprise skills to the test. Today it was the turn of Year 5 to become entrepreneurs and set up their very own greetings card company from scratch!

The Challenge: Greetings Card Challenge

In The Greetings Card Challenge, the Honilands Year 5 students were tasked with setting up their own greetings card company. To start the day, they had to use their Working in a Team skill in order to come up with a company name that everyone agreed on, before Using their Imagination to decide on their greetings card theme and design. Finally, before lunch it was onto the budgeting and then the production line and it was great to hear so many teams effectively Sharing Ideas to ensure their cards were the highest quality they could be.

The Results:

At the end of the day, each greetings card company in Year 5 stood up and gave a persuasive pitch as to why they were the best company, explaining the profit they had made, their card designs and how they had used Working in a Team skill throughout the day. It was brilliant to hear from all teams how they had used the key skill of Staying Positive throughout the day when their idea hadn’t been chosen by their team as well as when they were running out of time on the production line.

What they said:

  • “I thought it was going to be hard to get them to work in teams but today has been brilliant and using the skills scoreboard has really motivated them to improve their teamwork.” – Teacher, Year 5
  • “I’m really proud of how we’ve worked together today, even though we didn’t make the most money of all the teams we really helped each other and listened.” – Student, Year 5

Well done to everyone who was involved.
