The Schools: Kinlet C of E Primary School and Farlow CE Primary School

Kinlet CE Primary School and Farlow CE Primary School in Shropshire have been developing their Enterprise Skills over the year through lesson time projects such as Community Café and Food Glorious Food. They completed their first Challenge Day in June where both schools came together and worked collaboratively on their Moonbase challenge. The students were keen to put their Enterprise Skills learnt in the classroom into practice on their business trip to Hogarths Hotel and Restaurant, Stone Manor

The Business: Hogarths Hotel and Restaurant Stone Manor , Kidderminster

Set in 27 acres of landscaped gardens, this newly refurbished contemporary manor house is a family friendly luxury hotel that caters for overnight stays, weddings and conferences. Today, the volunteers were on hand to help the budding entrepreneurs aim high and turn their ideas into a successful project.

The Challenge: Delightful Do’s

The teams spent the first part of the challenge conducting some crucial market research by interviewing Hogarths staff about their roles and the skills they use in their day-to-day jobs. They then went on an exciting tour of the hotel which sparked their imagination for their project: to plan an engaging event at the hotel including content, promotion and invitations. This was sure to put their Problem Solving skills to the test as the event needed to be agreed by their teammates as well as being tailored to this luxury setting.

The Results:

Throughout the challenge, students benefited from expert advice from the Hogarths professionals and there was a healthy level of competition between teams, who were all Aiming High. With themes such as food festivals, sports games and live music, it was clear the enterprising teams had been Using Imagination and Sharing Ideas. The day culminated with students pitching their event plans to a panel of Hogarths judges who had a tough job picking a winning team.

What they said:

  • “You can really see the teamwork develop over the day during the activities and they have been building their resilience throughout too.” – Teacher, Kinlet C of E Primary School
  • “The children have been great! I’ve been really impressed with their ideas that seemed a bit crazy at the start but then they really presented it so well at the end.” – Volunteer, Hogarths Hotel and Restaurant
  • “I’m proud today of presenting in font of everyone and I’ve really enjoyed looking around Hogarths and seeing what goes on behind the scenes!” – Student, Farlow CE Primary School

Thanks to Hogarths Hotel and Restaurant Stone Manor for such a great trip day, and to Kinlet C of E Primary School and Farlow CE Primary School for coming along.
