The School: South Rise Primary

Students at South Rise Primary in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, South London have recently taken part in a careers and enterprise week. For this week, they made products, including fruit kebabs and CDs, to be sold at the summer fair.

Today, students in Years 2 and 4 were specially selected to take part in a new enterprise challenge, learning how these skills are used day-to-day by different people working within the police.

The Challenge: Crime Scene Challenge

At the start of the day, students were shocked to discover that the Sugar Snatcher had stolen all the chocolate from the kitchens and teachers’ drawers! They were invited to take on the role of police detectives for the day, finding and analysing evidence and presenting their findings to their class and the case officer.

The Results:

Throughout the challenge, students Worked in Teams to search for clues and make difficult decisions about who seemed most guilty at each stage of the investigation. They Listened Carefully to one another as they took turns to Share Ideas about the crime. Most of all, students demonstrated great Using Imagination and Problem Solving skills when analysing each piece of evidence and working out how each clue linked together to build a picture of the crime.

What they said:

  • “The main focus was on team work and what this meant; these activities allowed them to exercise and use the skills needed for a successful team and it was great for the kids to realise/learn this.” – Teacher, Year 2
  • “I’ve learnt that it is better to work as a team because you get to share more information with each other!” – Student, Year 4

Well done to everyone who was involved.
